CAPTAIN FIREBLOOD
Swashbuckling Rogue
There is no port which does not have a tale or two of the roguish Captain Fireblood and his crew, the Crimson Tide. The tales range from epic stories of conquering sea monsters and bedding fair sea sirens to robbing and pillaging wealthy merchant vessels. The age of piracy, at least in Vylbrand's waters, may be over but Fireblood is a man that never cared much for rules anyway. He's quite content to make his own story, carve his own path through troubled waters. Most of what is known of him, is in fact, a lie, but he doesn't seem to mind that at all.

Appearance
Fireblood is a taller than average Hyur, built for the rugged life at sea. He is toned, carrying broad shoulders that tell a tale of a hard life. He has a sun-tanned complexion from years spent out on the open ocean and the skin around his muddy green eyes wrinkles when he smiles. Hair, a deep red, is usually kept back in a loose braid or ponytail with shorter locks framing the right side of his face. At a glance, Fireblood has a handsome, if hard to place face. If pressed, he'll admit to being of mixed heritage, but never really clear from where.
Personality
On the surface, and to most people, Fireblood is the stereotypical definition of a charming swashbuckler that one might find in old adventure novels. He's a rogue, in more ways than one. While not above petty crime, if it suits him, he also seems to have a deep-rooted sense of honor and tends to take the high road, despite his less-than-legal profession. He can get a little rowdy, especially after pulling back a few pints, but never picks fights with people he knows cannot fight back. He does have a weakness for pretty women, however, and it has gotten him in trouble on more than one occasion.
For a man that carries a different name in every city, he's also surprisingly open. While he guards secrets about himself rather well, he seems to genuinely care about the people around him and that, is no front. His crew is his family, every street kid or runaway he's brought under his wing, a sibling to look after.
Hooks
Below is a list of hooks that might help us facilitate an IC reason for meeting. These are just suggestions, and most common ways to get involved with this character. Have another idea or way to hook in some roleplay? Feel free to let me know.
Pirate: While carrying a number of aliases, Fireblood is name that is often on the lips of those who frequent portside towns, especially taverns. While no longer affiliated with the pirates under the Admiral's command, his name and his crew have some notoriety in Vylbrand.
Merchant & Smuggler: Despite being a pirate first, above all else, Fireblood is also a businessman of sorts. He uses his ship and the goods he's acquired to trade and make sales in the black markets of a number of ports. For the right pay, he's also been known to move other merchant's less-than-legal goods. Most of his contacts lay in the eastern seas, his home waters will always be tied to Thavnair.
Spellsword: Fireblood is a unique talent. His mother was a capable mage, but he himself lacked the focus to hone his skills into actual practice as a rebellious youth. The magic he knows, he keeps simple. Using a focus in his cutlass, Fireblood is able to manipulate flame to coat his various weapons. Fire is an element he feels most comfortable with, and his flashy use of it is what gave him his current moniker.
Relationships
Note-worthy NPCs
Toffgiem "Toffy" Redsail: Fireblood's first mate and right hand woman. She's a mountain of a Roegadyn, towering over most of the crew. But she has a jovial nature, and is almost a bit too chipper to be a pirate. She doesn't speak much on how she came to be with the Crimson Tide, but it's clear she has been at Fireblood's side for quite some time. She was the first to take the name 'Redsail', honoring her loyalty to the Crimson Tide and forsaking whatever old life she had.
Hrok Lagasch: A grey-furred Hrothgar with a bad attitude. He tends to be the man the captain calls on when some extra muscle is needed, though his official title is that of quartermaster. Hrok doesn't take kindly to people not part of the crew, and he honestly doesn't like most of them either. He is the guy that makes sure folks do their job and stay out of trouble on the ship. Most days, it doesn't even seem like he cares much for the captain himself, but they have some sort of understanding.
Guthor Warsoul: An imposing highlander man with intricate red tattoos covering most of his face. Despite his outward appearance, he is actually a medic and worked for the Resistance before joining the Tide. He knows a bit of conjury, but relies more so on old-fashioned medicine. The man is also a complete mute, or at least has chosen never to speak a word to anyone before.
Timothee Redsail: An elezen youth no more than sixteen. After causing a bit of trouble for the captain and the crew by smuggling on a cursed skull, the deckhand has been working hard to get back into the captain's good graces. On good days, Fireblood lets him fly their recently acquired manacutter. On the bad, Timothee is piled with enough duties to keep him busy from sun up to sundown. He admires Fireblood greatly, and it's clear he sees him as some form of pseudo-father figure.
Rana Marjan: Fireblood's mother owns a small inn in Radz-at-Han. The boy made her life incredibly difficult when he was young. He spent most of his younger years in various amounts of trouble, despite knowing she was raising him on her own. The two share a rocky, yet somehow loving, relationship these days and he often returns to visit her and bring her gifts (ill-gotten or otherwise). She's an incredibly spirited woman and calls him 'Azar' though neither acknowledge it as his birth name.
Edward Thatch (Deceased): Fireblood only ever met his father once, and the experience left him with a large scar on his face after the exchange. His mother would tell him how much he was like his father, walking in nearly his exact footsteps. But the man was never around, anyway, and he can't be sure if he likes being compared despite knowing the truth of it. As far as Fireblood knows, Edward Thatch was a Limsan born pirate that died some years back after the law caught up with him.
Player Characters
Ellere Valahan: One of many unfortunate women to fall for Fireblood's charms. Several years ago, he met her while in the Limsan port and introduced himself under one of his many aliases, Tomas Thatch, a merchant. She believed him. But he took what he wanted, then left, as he always did. Recent circumstances had them reconnect in a rather life-changing way. And while she told Fireblood whatever debt he thinks he has to her no longer exists, some part of him will always regret hurting her in the way he did.
Ruran Vas: Fireblood met Ruran through Ellere, where the soft-spoken knight openly defended her when he made to convince her (by force) to help his cursed crew. The two formed a rather unusual bond, despite the circumstances. He finds he respects Ruran, giving him the rather teasing nickname 'Hero'. Part of him actually believes he is even though Fireblood is too jaded to believe in tales like that anymore.
OOC Information
Hey, I'm Hithren, and I've been doing this RP thing for about fifteen years, about four of them being in FFXIV. Below is some stuff you might want to know about me before engaging to make it easier on the both of us.
Disclaimer
As a general disclaimer: I suffer from major anxiety. If I do not answer or engage with you right away, please do not be offended. Sometimes I freeze up, or get discouraged.
I do not engage in ERP unless it is with close friends who I have gotten to know OOCly, and my characters have formed bonds with ICly. If you're looking for someone to satisfy such things, I'm likely not the roleplay partner for you. Don't get me wrong, I love ships and romance, but I do prefer organic development above all else.
I am not a multi-verse/AU roleplayer.
I prefer my roleplay to be lore-compliant ( within reason, we all bend a bit here and there), story/plot-driven, and mature-themed.
Accessibility
I am located in the PDT/PST timezone. At the moment I have a fluctuating schedule, so I prefer setting things up in advance rather than walk-ups. My main cast of characters are located on the Balmung server, and I do have some alts on Mateus and Goblin. I am more than happy to accommodate others via the World Visit system, however.
I predominantly roleplay in-game, and prefer this method over all others. I am open to Discord RP if that is the only way we can work something out, but I will warn in advance, I do tend to be slow to reply.
Tumblr
I am quite active on tumblr, and keep a few roleplay and FFXIV related blogs. If you want to get in contact with me, messaging me there is a good place to start.
@hithren: My main blog for OOC posts, character art, asks, and general FFXIV shenanigans.
@a-memory-of: IC blog for all characters, and roleplay logs. (Currently on hiatus.)
I am also fairly active on Discord, but I don't like people adding me out of the blue. If you've found me via tumblr, or in game, introduce yourself! And then I'll be more than happy to share my Discord handle.
